Private Three Day South Coast and The Golden Circle Tour
On this tour you will visit many of Icelands most beautiful sites. The Golden Circle and the South Coast tours are the most popular tours for a good reason and when we add Thorsmork to the equation you get to see the huge contrasts in Icelandic landscape and nature with its unbridged glacial rivers in its glacier surrounding valleys and canyons.
Day 1 – The Golden Circle
Our guide will pick you up at your hotel and you will head out to the Golden Circle, the most popular tour in Iceland. The three most important attractions on this route are Thingvellir National, Geysir geothermal area and Gullfoss waterfall. Thingvellir national park is the old parliament site and the two tectonic plates fault line lies through it. In Thingvellir the vikings founded Althingi or parliament which quickly became the main event in Iceland every summer, gathering Icelanders from every corner of the island. Hence the parliament soon became a gathering where people would exchange goods and information in addition to performing its legislative duties. Next we have the famous Geysir geothermal hot spring area where you will see Strokkur hot spring blow boiling water high in the air every 5-8 minutes and of course the stunning waterfall of Gullfoss.
Day 2 – The South Coast
Today we visit the South Coast that boasts many of the most beautiful sites in Iceland. Next to mention is the stunning Skogafoss Waterfall where you can walk up the view panel (if you dare), Reynisfjara black sand beach with the hexagonal basalt pillars, the nearby caves and Reynisdrangar cliffs rising from the tumbling ocean waves. Be careful not to go to close to the ocean because the waves can be dangerous!
Day 3 – Thorsmork Nature Reserve
Thorsmork Nature Reserve is the perfect location for some 4×4 action and hiking in the spectacular glacier valley landscape. We of course stop at the beautiful Seljalandsfoss waterfall where you can walk the path behind the veil of water plunging from the 60 meters high cliff high above. We leave the main road and traffic behind us as we head in between the three glaciers Eyjafjallajokull, Myrdalsjokull and Tindfjallajokull. They form a sort of micro climate in Thorsmork so it not uncommon to drive out of the rain and wind into the sun in Thorsmork. Gigjokull outlet glacier is one of our next sites along with Stakkholtsgja canyon and Basar in Godaland. We have more sites to show you if time allows before we head back to Reykjavik.
