2 Day Snaefellsnes Peninsula and Borgarfjordur Bay Private Tour
Snaefellsnes Peninsula sometimes called miniature Iceland and Borgarfjordur are truly the gems of West-Iceland.
Day 1 – Snaefellsnes Peninsula
We head west bound through the small town of Borgarnes by Borgarfjordur bay. Then we drive out towards the peninsula of Snaefellsnes which is sometimes called miniature Iceland due to its geological variety which is incredible. It boasts colorful Rhyolite mountains, craters, lava fields, rugged shorelines and of course the famous Snaefellsjokull glacier which is featured as the entrance to the centre of the earth in Jules Vernes novel Journey to the center of the earth. Arnarstapi village, Djupalonssandur beach, Londrangar cliff formations, Hellnar and the iconic Kirkjufell mountain are only a few of the sites along the way not to forget the impressive hexagonal basalt pillars of Gerduberg.
Day 2 – Borgarfjordur Bay
Borgarfjordur bay where you will visit Deildartunguhver the largest hot spring in Iceland by volume, Hraunfossar picturesque waterfalls and Reykholt a major historic site and church, former home of Snorri Sturluson historian, poet and politician. Hotel Husafell is in Husafell which is a small summerhouse area near Eiríksjökull and Langjökull glacier towering over the area and providing the glacial water forming Hvita river that runs through it. We head back to Reykjavik through Kaldidalur valley which is a rugged mountain road, if weather and snow conditions allow and pass through Thingvellir national park before we come to Reykjavik.
