Day 1 – South Coast Wonders

The South Coast boasts two stunning waterfalls, Seljalandsfoss  where you can walk behind the veil of water plunging from the 60 meters high cliff above and the picturesque waterfall of Skogafoss with the gold chest hidden behind it.  Next we have Dyrholaey promontory and Reynisfjara black sand beach with its caves and hexagonal basalt columns.  Just off shore you also see the stunning Reynisdrangar cliffs.  Vík small village is a popular stop.  It is the southern most inhabitation in Iceland.  Eldhraun was was formed during an eruption in Lakagigar craters in 1783-84 and is considered to be the largest and most poisonous in historical times.

Day 2 – Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

The main attraction today is Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon with its spectacle of icebergs floating on the lagoon and the Diamond Beach where small pieces of icebergs have washed up on the shore.  Nearby in the Skaftafell area you will find Svartifoss waterfall with only a short hike in this gorgeous oasis and if time allows you will also stop at Fjaðrárgljúfur canyons with their massive 100 meter walls dropping to the bottom of the deep gorge.  Then we’ll do the drive back to Reykjavík where you will be dropped off at your hotel*.

* Summertime Detour – Fjallabak Highlands

In the summertime and into the fall, June-October, it is possible to do a different route back to Reykjavik through Fjallabak highlands with Eldgja largest volcanic canyon in the world, Jokuldalir glacial valleys and Landmannalaugar highlands.  This area is not accessible in the spring time due to thawing so the roads are closed during that period.
