Day 1 – South Coast Wonders

Today we will see the stunning Seljalandsfoss waterfall. As you may know you can actually walk behind the waterfall that plunges from the 60 meters high cliff.  

Then we will visit the picturesque curtain waterfall Skogafoss which is a must see as well. Next we have Dyrholaey promontory with its natural arch and of course the famous Reynisfjara black sand beach with its caves and hexagonal basalt columns.  Just off shore you’ll also see the beautiful Reynisdrangar cliffs rise from the ocean floor.

Day 2 – The Golden Circle

 The Golden Circle is the most popular tour in Iceland and for a good reason.  The main sites are Thingvellir National Park, Geysir and Gullfoss waterfall.

Thingvellir is the old parliament site where the settlers formed the Icelandic parliament in 930.  The site is not only important because of the cultural significance but also because it is located in a rift valley between the two tectonic plates North American and Eurasian.  This is where you can witness the actual effect of the movement of the plates on the ground and the only place you can do that I might add. 

Geysir is the namesake of all geysers in the world.  It hasn’t blown for quite some time now but thankfully its nephew Strokkur blows every 5-8 minutes.  Here you can also see bubbling fumaroles and boiling water seeping from the ground. 

Gullfoss waterfall has a special place in the heart of each Icelander. It doesn’t matter if you see it in the summer or during winter, it is always stunning.
