Private Four Day Tour In South Iceland

Day 1 – Golden Circle

Your guide will meet up with you at your hotel at 9 am in the lobby of your hotel and you will head out to the Golden Circle that stretches up to the Southern uplands and farmlands.  The three most important attractions on this route are Thingvellir National Park old parliament site and the two tectonic plates fault line. This is where the vikings founded Alþingi or Parliament and your guide will explain all about how they met each summer to say the law and pass judgements.  The famous Geysir geothermal hot spring area where you will see Strokkur hot spring shoot boiling water high up in the air every 5 – 8 minutes and the of course the massive two level waterfall of Gullfoss.

Day 2 – Landmannalaugar Highlands

The area of Landmannalaugar Highland famous their colourful rhyolite mountains in orange, green, blue and black has attracted travellers for decades.  The Ljotipollur Crater Lake and Infamous Hekla Volcano are also amongst the things you will see during your 4×4 day through these mountainous highlands.  Eldgjá massive volcanic fissure is the largest one known on the planet / stretches 40 km from Landmannalaugar to Kirkjubæjarklaustur and is around 270m deep and 600m wide where it is the widest.

Day 3 – Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon

The mesmerising Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon offers a spectacle of massive ancient icebergs calmly floating around in the icy water with the incredible backdrop of Breiðamerkurjökull huge outlet glacier from Vatnajökull the mother of all glaciers in Iceland.  Nearby you have the diamond beach where the smaller icebergs are strewn around the black sand and finally you will stop at Skaftafell National Park and do a hike through the oasis of trees to find the Black waterfall that got named after the black octagonal pillars of basalt that surround the cascade.  The black sand beach Reynisfjara with the multitude of octagonal basalt pillars shaping the coast and the caves and finally the Skógarfoss waterfall that is the last stop of the day.

Day 4 – Thorsmork Glacier Valley

The Þórsmörk glacier valley is perfect for 4×4 and hiking.  The first stop is the at Seljalandsfoss waterfall where you can walk the path behind the veil of water plunging from the cliff high above. Turning inwards to the country and heading onwards over rough roads and unbridged rivers which leave most of the traffic behind but is perfect for the modified super jeep you are riding in.  The Gígjökull outlet glacier that runs from Eyjafjallajökull glacier is a must stop, the canyons that hide secret waterfalls open up new worlds and the many different trails that you find in the area offer the chances of a stroll or a hike at your difficulty level to marvel at the views.
